This South Windsor bathroom needed more than a facelift. We're talking a full gut - down to the studs, insulation exposed, every surface stripped back to zero. That's the only way to do it right when a bathroom has run its course. Patching over old problems just delays the inevitable.
Once we got the walls open, we replaced all the drywall with moisture-resistant board throughout. This isn't a small detail - standard drywall in a bathroom is a long-term problem waiting to happen. Moisture gets in, mold follows, and suddenly you're doing this all over again. We don't cut corners on the stuff you can't see once everything is finished.
For the shower, we used Schluter Kerdi waterproofing membrane on the walls and a proper shower floor system underneath - both visible during the build-out phase before tile went in. That combination creates a fully waterproof barrier that protects the structure behind it for the long haul. The tile itself is a bold black marble-look porcelain with white veining, large format panels set with precision spacers to keep everything clean and level.
The rest of the bathroom got the same attention. New vanity, new toilet, new flooring, new door - the whole space rebuilt from the ground up. When you're putting this much work into a home, every piece needs to work together. Nothing held over from before just because it technically still functioned.
A full bathroom renovation like this one isn't just about looks. It's about getting the bones right so the finished product holds up for years. That's what we focus on with every bathroom remodeling job we take on in Connecticut.
