Failing Plaster Ceiling Removed and Replaced with New Drywall

Old plaster ceilings fail. It's not a matter of if - it's a matter of when. Once they start cracking, sagging, or pulling away from the joists, there's really no patching your way out of it. The only real fix is to take it all down and start fresh.

That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The existing plaster had let go in a big way, taking a pile of loose insulation down with it. Before we could do anything else, we had to get all of that debris cleared out - every bit of old plaster, every handful of fallen insulation - down to clean, bare joists. That's the only way to know what you're actually working with underneath.

Once the ceiling was fully stripped and the framing was inspected, we could move forward with hanging new drywall. Ceiling work like this takes patience. Every sheet has to be properly fastened, every seam has to be taped and mudded correctly, or you end up with the same problems down the road. We don't cut corners on that part.

The finished ceiling came out clean and solid - smooth seams, tight to the framing, ready for paint. It's the kind of result that makes the rest of the room look better too. A ceiling that's done right just changes the whole feel of a space.

If your ceiling is cracking, sagging, or showing signs of serious wear, it's worth getting it looked at sooner rather than later. A failing plaster ceiling doesn't get better on its own, and the longer it sits, the bigger the mess when it finally comes down.
